GNA has developed Laser PCR®, a new laser-based, optothermal method to provide ultra-fast DNA amplification and detection. The method is based on laser-heated nanoparticles within the sample solution, which also cool down immediately after irradiation. As a result, the classic thermocycler can be replaced for amplification, while the detection depends on the optical characteristics of the nanoparticles instead of fluorescence measurements.
Furthermore, an efficient virus concentration prior to the molecular detection shall lead to a very sensitive assay. The Laboratory of Metallomics and Nanotechnology at the Mendel University in Brno works on specific particles for this purpose.
